How We Got Here
Hero’s Ranch Holistic Healing began long before there was land, a name, or a formal framework.
The roots of this work trace back to 2012, during a period when my own healing journey made it unmistakably clear that insight alone is not enough. True change requires working with the body, the nervous system, and the environments we live within, not against them.
Following a medical retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2014, my family and I relocated from San Diego to Central Texas. What began as a necessary life transition became the foundation for something much larger. During this time, I immersed myself in hands-on service dog training, behavioral work, and nonprofit efforts supporting disabled veterans through therapy and service animals.
As this work evolved, so did a deeper understanding: healing happens most sustainably when safety, structure, and relationship are present, especially in the body. In 2016, this understanding shaped the earliest version of what would later become the SAFE™ Framework, originally developed as a 90-day trauma-informed, body-based program.
Continued academic study, professional training, and lived experience refined this approach over time. The vision for Hero’s Ranch expanded into a sanctuary, not just a physical place, but a philosophy, where healing is paced, relational, and grounded in nervous-system safety.
Hero’s Ranch exists to offer what so many people are missing:
a space where healing does not require reliving the past, proving worth, or pushing beyond capacity, only the willingness to begin where you are.
